Rockman 9
Seriously, when things couldn't get more nerve-wrecking and a wait for confirmation is too unbearable, I happen to get a email message sent to me, from a beta tester at Capcom none the less. This source turned out to be authentic and will bring our anticipation for the game even higher than usual.
This beta tester sent me a photo attachment of what does indeed look like Rockman 9.
That fight looks pretty intense and fiery, if you ask me. The beta tester had this message sent to me.
"Dear Rockman Perfect Memories,
I'm a beta tester for Capcom, and it's been a lot of fun reading all these posts about Rockman 9!
I'm one of the people who gets to test it! :)
Ever since I started playing it, I've wanted to take pictures and post them online, but they check you for cameras every time before you go into the room to play. Well I thought I'd try something tricky after a few months of beta testing, so I borrowed my girl friend's phone. The guys there trust me enough not to pat me down anymore and they'll let me hand them my phone. So, I took a quick picture of the screen with my girl friend's phone! Sorry it's so blurry and dark, but she's got a really old phone.
I want to just send it to you guys because I don't want it to get too much attention (Which is why I'm not sending it to Kotaku, or 1-Up.). But I'll confirm a few things about the game:
- You can play as Blues.
- The graphics are in the 8-bit sprite style, but not the classic Famicom/NES one.
- It doesn't have anything to do with the X series.
- Tango is in it, and works just like the Rockman World Game Boy version.
- The game doesn't support full wide screen YET, but it will.
- It does support 480p.
Also, PLEASE don't reveal my alias, e-mail name, or e-mail address! I don't want anyone to know I'm the one who sent this in!"
These are pretty comforting words. And the way I see it, the visual aspect of the screen doesn't ruin the overall experience and look of the sprites and other elements on it. I was hoping to see some pretty backgrounds to blend along with the sprites, but this is all there was, I guess. I mean, I understand if this beta tester didn't manage to get more screens, unless it would be caught red-handed.
We'll be expecting more facts and info straight from the source later on.
Special Thanks: Anonymous Capcom Beta Tester
Turns out the screenshot was fake all along.

The one who made the screenshot is BlackBeltDude, with the following message.
"Yeah, it was me! XD Sorry, but I thought it'd be really fun (actually, Zan gave me the idea to do it). Yeah, it's completely fake.
Also, just so you guys know, I didn't reuse a thing in that mock up. :P Here it is as a PNG, and not a pic:
So, I guess I'll explain a few things now.
For starters, I thought I'd use the rumor that it was in an 8-bitty kind of style. Personally, I wouldn't like the idea of Capcom just reusing the old sprites, so I made new 8-bitty ones. I did decide to reuse the NES pallettes, and color limits though. To fallow that further, I just left the background black, as they typically where in those games when you fought a sub-boss. Adding a background crossed my mind, but I couldn't think of what it would be while staying relevant to what was going on.
To get this image, I made it first of course. Then I put it on my laptop, hooked it up to my TV, and took a picture of it with my phone. Heh, it's funny actually. I decided to edit out the "VIZIO" logo on the bottom because I figured, "why would Capcom use VIZIO? They'd use a SONY or something." Then someone posted that video of the Street Fighter HD remix stuff. :P
I decided to use a Chimera because I thought it'd make sense. Maybe the Robot Master there had something to do with fusions, or something (Like Search man or Gemini man), plus I thought it wasn't too far off from something Capcom would do. Why not add a Chimera? It's about the only thing they haven't added to a Megaman game.
There's plenty I could have done differently with this mock up, after reading the comments. It hadn't really occurred to me that jumping and shooting and taking a picture would be next to impossible to do! XD I just didn't want it to look boring. I guess I could have researched things about beta testers (fine, QAers, but beta tester is a much more familiar term). And I just want to point out that the Okami port to the Wii was in it's beta for a long time with an incomplete widescreen. :P
Honestly though, I don't think I would have wanted everyone to believe it entirely. I wanted it to stir up little arguments and controversy, and get people hyped about a new Megaman game. ;)
I had lots of fun doing this! Thanks for posting the story Vixy! And thanks for everyone to took time to look at it, and isn't pissed about it being fake! XD And if you are pissed... well, Internets: Serious Business.
(Also, google in, "Megaman 9 Screenshot" and see how many results come up!)"
The President of Cpapcom has this important announcement to make:
"I'd like to inform everyone that Rockman9 is not an official product of Cpapcom. Like Scramble Battle, it is a product of our secondary division, KOKO-cpapcom. However, Rockman9 was never supposed to exist in this format, we have thus fired the staff member responsible for this truly horrendous hoax. We ensure everyone quality on the actual release of Rockman9 by KOKO-cpapcom.
Cpapcom had no involvement with the actual conceptualizing and pixel pushing. The screen, was fabricated and photographed and released behind our backs. We became aware of the fact that this was KOKO-Cpapcom's promised screen after the damage was already done, left in the dark until KOKO-Cpapcom finally informed us it was theirs. Normally quality asurance goes through Cpapcom first. This screen would not have passed.
We have therefor concluded our security was lacking and fired the chief of security over at KOKO-Cpapcom. However, KOKO-Cpapcom's pixel pushers were not sacked in the hopes that that division will redeem itself in the future.
Disclaimer:
All products released by KOKO-Cpapcom are not canon to the storyline produced by Cpapcom."
